AEW Championships Betting Odds (Updated)

The gang at 888Sport have posted some interesting odds regarding the main championships in AEW.

The first odds that we’ll look at is the inaugural AEW World Tag Team championship odds. There is currently a tournament ongoing on their television show AEW Dynamite to crown new champions. The first week of the tournament saw Private Party with the big upset against the Young Bucks. The Young Bucks were expected by many to be the favorite in this tournament going in.

The current odds see the Jurassic Express team of Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy as the current favorite at +175. I would say that is a bit of a surprise as they are a lower seeded team and face the Lucha Brothers in the first round. A complete look at the currents odds:

  • Jurassic Express +175
  • Lucha Brothers +225
  • The Dark Order +225
  • SoCal Uncensored +500
  • Best Friends +600
  • Private Party +600

The best bet here has to be the Dark Order. For one, they have the bye in this tournament meaning that they only need to win two matches to win it all. In a company where wins and losses matter, rest is going to matter as well for how people perform. The bracket is set up nicely for them as they will face either the Best Friends or SCU in the second round. Both of those teams can handle a loss and Dark Order is the only true heel team in this thing.

The other side is set up nicely for a team to face them that will be very popular with the crowd. Whoever comes out of that bracket, Jurassic Express, Private Party or Lucha Brothers, they will be very favored by the crowd. That could work against the Dark Order, but I think it could really help establish them in the eyes of the fans. Plus, it would set up numerous matches going forward.

UPDATED ODDS AS OF OCTOBER 19th:

  • Lucha Brothers +167
  • SCU +167
  • Private Party +300
  • Dark Order +300

The odds for the semi-finals have been updated and SCU and the Lucha Brothers are big favorites right now. It makes sense considering the way that things have gone. The Lucha Brothers on SCU before their match last week would seem to foreshadow a finals match-up between these two teams.

My only issue with that is I’m not sure either team really needs those titles right now. While winning the titles would mean a lot for the careers of Private Party or the Dark Order.

Let’s say that Private Party gets their second straight upset over a big time team, they would be made men. Then the Lucha Brothers are pissed off and cost SCU the match. That sets up Dark Order vs. Private Party in the finals, a prime spot for Dark Order to get the win. I still think they are probably the best bet here value-wise, but a SCU-Lucha Brothers final would not surprise me.

888Sport also has odds listed on who the next AEW World Champion will be. Chris Jericho is the current champion and he defends the title against Cody on November 9th. However, Cody is not the current favorite to take the title as that match is considered to be early in Jericho’s run. The current odds look like this:

  • PAC +134
  • Kenny Omega +167
  • Cody +200
  • Darby Allin +300
  • Jake Hager +500
  • Jon Moxley +600
  • Adam “Hangman” Page +2000
  • Sammy Guevara +3300
  • MJF +5000
  • Shawn Spears +6600
  • Orange Cassidy +8000

It’s surprising to see PAC at the top of the odds here as both him and Chris Jericho are firmly on the heel side of things. I can’t see a match happening between them at this point as things are currently aligned.

The favorite should be Kenny Omega who seems like a great play to be the second champion of this company. Jericho and Omega are tied 1-1 in their series and that rubber match will need to happen at some point. With Omega having lost a few matches to start AEW and himself currently embroiled in a feud with Jon Moxley, it could be awhile before we see that.

Of course, you can bet on that too. The current odds on when the change takes place are as follows:

  • Before March 1st, 2020 -250
  • After March 1st, 2020 +175

This might be the best bet currently out there if you think of the way that AEW schedules their big shows. You will have Jericho facing Cody on November 9th and then we are likely not getting another big show until February. They schedule their shows on bank holiday weekends and that looks like President’s Day weekend on February 15th.

So if Jericho makes it through that, something I’d bet on, then you have Double or Nothing 2 in May and All Out 2 in September. Those will be big anniversary dates for the company and they feel like a much better time to make the first switch.
