AEW is celebrating one year of AEW Dynamite (late) with a huge show this Wednesday with all of their titles on the line. The biggest match is Jon Moxley defending the AEW World Heavyweight Championship against Lance Archer. This match has been built up since Lance Archer won the Casino Battle Royale at AEW Double or Nothing and is a rematch of their NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 classic in January.
The Archer/Moxley match is the main event, but the most intriguing match may be Cody Rhodes defending his newly won AEW TNT Championship against Orange Cassidy.
Cody had a bloody war with Brodie Lee last week where he won the title and him defending the title here is somewhat surprising. There is no way that he is going into this one in top shape and an upset could be in the works.
There are two more title matches on the card, the Best Friends facing the AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR as well as Hikaru Shida defending the AEW Women’s Championship against Big Swole, but I don’t have odds on these ones right now. I will update this post if they manage to come out between now and show day.
Betting odds for AEW Dynamite’s Anniversary show via 888 Sport are below:
AEW Dynamite – 1 Year Anniversary Show Betting Odds:
- Jon Moxley (-835) vs. Lance Archer (+425)
- Cody (-500) vs. Orange Cassidy (+300)
It’s really hard to imagine Jon Moxley losing this match-up. Archer is a fantastic wrestler and an absolute monster, but Mox is 100% that dude. He’s not going to lose this title on free television. That is something that we are going to have to pay for. If this match is anything like their match at Wrestle Kingdom it should be great to watch, but don’t be expecting a title change.
I do expect a title change on this show though. There are four title matches on the show and it definitely feels like something is going to happen in one of them. It’s that weird thing where if they are all retained then it is going to feel like a bit of a letdown, even if they are all the right choices.
The Best Friends are popular enough to defeat FTR, but the company seems set on doing a Young Bucks/FTR match down the road. That match being for the titles would be huge and Full Gear is just four weeks away. That looks like it could be the main event of that show so I can’t pick FTR to win this.
The AEW Women’s division has been struggling over the entire year of Dynamite and Hikaru Shida is not on the show nearly as much as she should be, but it’s hard to see Big Swole defeating her here. Shida vs. Nyla Rose or Shida vs. Britt Baker are the money matches right now in this division so I can’t imagine a title change here either.
That leaves Orange Cassidy vs. Cody. Like I said earlier, Cody went through an absolute war last week and he could be feeling that in this match. He’s also said that he wants to “lock up” with Orange Cassidy here. That feels like a chance to prove that Orange Cassidy is a good technical wrestler and not just the guy who puts his hands in his pockets. Cody is hurt and he could be underestimating the wrestling talent of his opponent. The anniversary show is the perfect place for one of the most popular wrestlers on the show to get the title. Bet Orange Cassidy +300
